Each year, Myrtle Beach hosts Grand Strand Freedom Week- a week full of educational and celebratory events. The biggest event of the week-long series is always the annual parade for Martin Luther King Jr.!

Grand Strand Freedom Week has taken place for 17 years now. This year, it will be held January 13-17, 2023. Events planned for the week include a wonderful welcome reception, a mental health forum, a community ecumenical service, a drum-major award, a breakfast, and an economic development summit. The week's most popular event is always the parade, which honors Martin Luther King Jr. The community adores the parade and its wholesome message. It is a reminder to all of how far the civil rights movement has come- and of how much progress is left to be made.
